Higher education institutions possess unique capacities to advance transformation toward sustainable development through impact-oriented governance, cross-sectoral innovation, and measurable accountability. This session proposes an integrated approach that conceptualizes universities as fifth-generation universities—organizations that not only educate and conduct research, but also co-create solutions with society, industry, government, the civil sector, and the natural environment within the Quintuple Helix configuration.
We examine how this approach strengthens sustainable business models and fosters green social innovation through the deep integration of five spheres of engagement: academia, industry, government, civil society, and the natural environment.
Drawing on the practical experience of joint initiatives within the SatLab Consortium, the session will present:
Examples of climate-sensitive governance practices grounded in cross-sectoral learning and multi-actor management.
Illustrations of impact metrics and reporting systems aligned with ESG standards and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Practical guidelines for implementing governance and decision-making models based on the Quintuple Helix approach, ensuring transparent, comparable, and actionable outcomes.
Participants will gain operational tools for integrating sustainability into strategic agendas, innovation portfolios, and multi-sector ecosystems, thereby contributing to measurable social and environmental impact at both institutional and territorial levels.
